2003 Explorer xls
Hey all, new to this forum. New to all this period lol. I have a 2003 Ford Explorer xls vin:k.
Problem I’m having is that my temp gauge moves up slightly passed the middle peg after driving about 20 25 min along with the thing idles around 12 to 1500 rpms . I live in Texas and it’s pretty hot, don’t know if that matters.

I’ve replaced the thermostat housing, thermostat was included about 5 months ago.

Fuel pump about 3 Weeks ago and fuel filter a week ago.

Did valve body gaskets and air intake gaskets about 4 days ago.

I just don’t know why temp raises while the idle high after driving a little ways.

Hope this is the right place to post.

Welcome, Jeremy!
I moved your thread, even though it wasn’t in a “wrong” section, but I think you’ll get more response where I moved it.

How many miles on it?

You could try replacing the fan clutch if its original.

I don't know if it is your issue or not, but a friend had a similar problem, changed virtually every component of the cooling system and it ended up being the radiator cap.

Thank you. I had a friend say it is prob water pump so I’m changing that and can clutvch tonight. Found the clutch and pump as a package for 120. If that doesn’t work I’ll get the cap next.

Ok so new pump and clutch. 30 min after driving still high rpm in park and neutral and overheat..

It’s always good to do a thermostat whenever doing a water pump or radiator. And the radiator cap is pretty cheap. Beyond that you need to do a compression test and see if you maybe have a blown head gasket. There’s other tests you can do as well.

You also need to make sure it has the proper amount of coolant. Can be hard to do without a vacuum fill tool.

Really need to plug in a OBDII scanner or ForScan and read the actual temperature.

What brand is the new thermostat? If it's anything other than the Motorcraft 190 degree I'd replace it with one.

I don’t know off hand, but I just put in shop to diagnose.
