2001 Ranger XLT 4WD
Hello All, Your site has been very helpfull, I appreciate all of the information that has been provided. I have a problem with a 2001 Ford Ranger 4WD. I just replaced the front hub assembly's and now the truck is pulling hard to the right when I push on the brakes. I did the driver side first then drove the truck. When I first hit the brakes they seemed to lock up but then freed up agian. Now the truck tries to run off the road to the right when I hit the brakes hard, if I brake slowly everything seems fine. What did I do wrong everything worked fine before I did this work. Any input will be helpfull I am supposed to take this truck on a hunting trip the day after thanksgiving.

Thanks in advance for any help

Did you check the brake components at each wheel? Maybe you forgot a pad or something, or put a pad on backwards (did this once when I was putting it back together in the dark).

Sounds like the caliper is sticking. May be something hooked up wrong, if not caliper may just need to be replaced.

Hey guy's thanks for the quick responses. I am still stumped. All of the bolts are tight, the break lines are in good shape, and I checked the breaks by jacking the driverside up then got my wife to hit the breaks while I was spinning the wheel and it stopped solid. When I disassembled the truck I took the rotor and caliper off in one piece so the pads should still be in the same place? I did remove the caliper bolts for lack of better knowledge but everything stayed in place. I also had to remove the knuckle to replace the seal that seats onto the end of the cv shaft. I have a rental for my hunting trip so Ill get back to this on Monday. I'm thinking about disasembling the breaks and putting it all back together just to make sure everything is in the right place. Is there an easy way to check the piston in the break caliper, and does anyone know if there is just one piston or two.

Thanks agian guy's and have a happy Thanksgiving.

Check your rotor is on square, rust can form a lip and stop it seating right- just turn it till it slips on.....good luck and let us know.

how did you take the rotor, caliper bracket, pads, and caliper off as an assembly???? hope you didnt let it hang by the hose!!!!!! it doesnt look like much but the caliper hanging by itself is enough to destroy the hose let alone the whole assembly.

besides that, i would take the brakes completely apart and put them back together. if you put it together as one thers a good chance something wasnt completely seated when you tightened the mounting bolts
