Help what is this leak

I have a 2012 Ford Explorer with 21,000 miles. I have a small leak every so often, sometimes it is near the front passenger side tire, just behind the tire, other times i see it at the rear of the car, but don't think anything back there should be looking. Looking under the car today, i see this. This shot is from under the passenger seat, looking towards the drivers side, it looks just left of the engine if i was seated in the drivers seat. Is this the power transfer unit leaks i have read about in other fords. Any ideas??? Thanks everyone

the leak at the rear could just be condensate from draining from the rear HVAC system

Looks like oil seep to me.....Go see your Dealer, it should be under warrantee....

This time I have to agree with Plumb... Looks like oil seep. From auto trans. Doesn't appear to be PTU, but can't tell from pics. What color and what smell? Gear oil from PTU has sulfur--so it will smell like rotten eggs. ATF is more "oily" smelling... Almost like a cross between fresh motor oil and nice leather! Or maybe its just me...

Rear is, as stated earlier, is condensate from rear AC...

It does not smell like sulfur, just kind of looks like regular oil, no smell. I took it in to ford today, they looked around the car and said they did not see any leaks, Even though i have random drops of oil all over my driveway and this is our only car. When asked about that picture, they said it looked like seep, and that ford covers leaks under warranty but not seeps. So i am stuck with that, what ever it is.

What about spraying that area with a engine cleaner then after clean check it daily to see if its a gasket leak or find a source

That is my plan, They had the guys steam clean the bottom, however, it didn't even get the oil or what ever they want to call it off that area. I am going to try to get under and clean it, but its pretty think, don't quite know how to get to it. I still have a extended warranty for another 5 years or 80,000. Not too worried now, but will probably trade it in for something else at the time. Not too impressed

Also I would consider trying a second dealership for an opinion. Whenever I had denial at one dealership I would go to another one and usually the issue was resolved. The Ford CS contacts on here are usually very good at escalating issues to regional service Managers to assist owners.

The last thing you need is a failure while driving.

The Power Transfer Unit on the Interceptor Utility is one of biggest issues right now with an extremely high leak and failure rate. The difference is on the Sport and Utility the PTU is liquid cooled vs air cooled on the other models.
