Well my situation is like this:
I'm trying to connect a lighted switch to turn on and off my amp.
It has 3 terminals labeled like this
V-
V+
V+ out

Please go easy on me, I'm kind of new to this wiring thing, but I usually learn fast.

Is there a way to get the power from a stereo cable so I dont have to run a cable all the way to the battery?

And also ,can I use speaker cable to do the wiring?
Thank you.

What I did was install the switch in my dash bezel. Then I just ran the remote turn on wire that you should already have there to the switch, then from the switch to the receiver. Then just ground it. You are just placing the switch in line on what you already have. Get it?

Do not use speaker wire.

So is this correct?

V- to ground (metal surface)
V+ to remote turn on wire coming from stereo
V+ out to remote turn on wire going to amp

That looks right. Working with simple switching like this, a test light would go a long way. Very useful tool, and cheap.

Thank you guys, and I do have a test light .
