Help With Ford 8.8

Hey guys, I blew up my carrier in my ford 8.8, the limited slip crapped out and know is clunking. I want to put an open carrier from a first gen in it and then spool it or lock it. Will a first gen carrier fit in a second gen 8.8? And if not, can you swap disk brakes on the 1st gen axle?

1. It sounds like the easiest thing for you to do is replace your worn out LS with a locker, using the axle you already have. I would stay away from a spool if you plan on driving it on the street at all.
2. Yes, the internals of the diff are the same from gen 1 to gen 2
2. Yes, you can put the axle from a gen 1 under a gen 2
3. Yes, you can swap the brakes onto a first gen axle
4. If you do swap in a different axle, regardless of what year Ex it came from, make sure you don't put it into 4WD (if it is 4WD) until you know the front and rear axles have the same ratio.

Why don't you just rebuild the Trac-Lok carrier. If you don't want to do that you replace just the carrier from any 8.8 with a open carrier but you will have to "set up" the rear again. The rebuild kit from FRPP is only $45.95 list and the part # is M-4700-B this is a common rebuild and very easy. Just don't forget to friction modifier or you clutches will wear out prematurely
