I am having a problem with my 2004 Explorer 4x4 Limited

This all started when I hit a deer a few weeks ago and I had an airbag sensor in my seatbelt replaced by a shop. All of the other work was completed. I don't think they are being fully honest with me. Within a day of having my Explorer back it is rough idling, misfiring it stalled out and I have a service engine soon light on. It wouldnt go into reverse once and kicked out of overdrive. The shop says they never flashed the computer. They also said no codes other than the airbag one were on when it came in there.

The codes I am getting now are

PO301 Cylinder 1 Misfire

PO316 Engine Misfire on Start

PO731 Gear 1 Incorrect Ratio

Does anyone know of a particular issue that would cause this specifically.

Thanks for your help in advance.

PO301 Cylinder 1 Misfire - it could be your COP (coil on plug), just replace it along with the spark plug. Or try swapping the COP with the next cylinder (2 for example) if it shows PO302 then the COP is bad, otherwise it's the spark plug. Sometime the valve gasket is bad and oil seeps into the spark plug well or coolant leak in the manifold going in as well.

PO316 - might be the same COP issue or fuel injector.

PO731 - seems to be a solenoid (trans) issue.

Thanks for the help. In my search I cant seem to find a single issue that would set off all of these codes. I will start with your suggestions and go from there.

After running it to another shop the verdict is It needed a major tuneup. In the polar vortex weather we have been having it blew a plug with all the short starts and movement around the shop area. Better that than anything else. Heres a few things that it needed:

Spark Plugs
Spark Plug Wires
Thermostat leaking
PCV Valve
Cleaned throttle body
Fuel filter
Air filter
Cracking Belt

She is running like new now. Thanks for the help.
