2000 Ford explorer XLT
I have a 2000 Ford explorer XLT 5.0.it just recently started getting really reduced mpg and just today has a rough idle.i scanned it and codes p0340 and p0174 were detected.i looked up what the codes are.could they both be the same problem or do I have to fixed the codes separately?

If you pull the camshaft position sensor off you’ll probably find the inside is broken and the rotor on the camshaft synchronizer is damaged.

The codes aren’t likely to be related.

The cam sensor is right under the coil packs. Easy job. The new sensor/drive should come with an alignment tool. This drives the oil pump, so I’d go Motorcraft, or other top quality option.
