Year, Model & Trim Level
'99 Eddie Bauer
Just thought I would introduce myself. I recently purchased a '99 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition (is that actually a model or just a trim package - should I describe it by calling it an EB or just an Explorer?).

This is my first Explorer, the result of a car accident and a totaled car. I got it for a good price off Craigslist, though it came with a few problems. For some reason, with this car, I feel the bug to fix things myself, mostly cosmetic and a few other issues. Granted, most of these are little things, but ever since a friend helped me change the brakes and replace a broken seat on my old car, I've gained enough courage to start messing with my ride.

A little about me, I'm a grad student at NC State. Married less than a year ago, hoping to graduate in about a year and a half. I'm pretty normal. Nothing terribly interesting about me. When it comes to working on cars, I have very limited knowledge, but hopefully by hanging around here and reading up on how to fix my own car, I can learn how to better take care of mine and my wife's in general and not have to turn to the garage every time something little needs to be done.

So anyway, hi to everyone!

Welcome To Explorer Forum! We have some great "how to" threads that will walk you through most anything you will need.

^^^ Haha. Yeah, the story behind teh user name is that it was just something I thought would be an interesting AIM screen name back in my undergraduate years. It kinda stuck for other login uses too. It's just supposed to be eyecatching and funny. Something, though, I worry that people think I'm talking about myself or something and that I'm vain or egotistical, none of which is true.

And I'm excited about the "hot to" threads. Really, a big thing is that I would like to get comfortable with working on my car. In the past, I've never been confident. Any brake work, almost anything, I'd just go to the garage. Other than being expensive, it's impractical, and I know I should be able to do some of this stuff... just have to be helped through it with some instruction the first time through.

True. I'm hoping some of this knowledge I gain will spill over to my wife's car as well. Maybe I'll be able to do things like change her brakes and do simple repairs, though I probably won't mess with it until its out of warranty.
