i ran across this for sale on craigslist...for 250 dollars..it is a salvaged title and as the guy claims...it was fixed and ran fine then one day stalled and never started again. its a 1991 xlt.... He believes its the electronic ignition module (in his terms exact) do you think it'd be a good buy with only 112k miles on it?

mine is a 1994 xlt...and one other question is there any differences between the 1991 and the 1994 (unsure of any mid generation changes) that would make some things not interchangeable?

and sorry i forgot to downsize the 2 pictures...and dont mind teh snow around the one hahaha damn iowa winters and im sick of the snow!

if all you need is parts then id say its a great deal, just take the Vin to ford and figure out what T case and tranny it has. (or just look at it) i bought a explorer for 300 (same as mine) for parts and it has already earned its value.

only thing i would really be worried about is how long its been sitting for. how much rust it has now, and it there is any rodent damage. (or mold)

the pictures are fresh and new...and he claims its only been sitting for 3 or 4 months? if im correct didnt all first gens 91-94 come with the a4ld tranny...and as of tcase arent they all teh same also? i havent done much research on teh tcase's of these i just know mine works =)

i dont really know about first gens, but for 250, all the spare parts you will have will be worth it IMHO.

thats what i was thinking...plus an entire engine to work on a modified rebuild with...as i can still wheel i just wanted some second opinions on teh deal it will only cost me 75 dollars to get it hauled the 2 hour trip home. unless something sparks and changes my mind hopefully will have it saturday

sounds great i'd do it for sure
THANKS for the input...ahhh the things we can buy cheaply all because some guy is too lazy to fix it =) I shall be dropping a tranny in a snow bank when it gets to my house (due to garage being full) and then having ti reinstall in snow drift lol! so anyone have any further input about mid gen changes?

Sounds like a good deal to me. There were a few small changes in the engine through out the 91-94 run. But you can still make it work. And FYI: there were 2 trans options and 2 t-case options. The manual trans is 1000 times stronger then the automatic, and the manual t-case is a sought after item because the shift motor on the electric needs rebuilding every now and then. I see your truck has auto hubs, if the new one has manual then that would be a good swap to make. AND, now you can have 4 wheels that match on your truck!! lol

GO FOR IT! Only thing Iowa winters destroy is the body. You will have enough spare motor parts and tranny/T-case to keep yours running forever.
You will end up with spare motor, spare tranny, spare T-case to rebuild.

i would say its a deffinate im going for it and yes my goal is to keep my ex running my entire life...its that special bond with the truck since it was my first bought vehicle at the age of 15 i paid in cash for it... im now 21 =) and she's never given me major issues until tranny and t-conveter went out at like 260 or 270k i forget what its at lol and as of the manual and auto tranny... i believe he said it was an auto...like my explorer... and the only option is an a4ld for auto correct? i'd love the manual t-case but how hard is it to convert my electric to the manual? and yes i know i love my mix matched rims... i stole the back too off my brothers ranger when he totalled it giving me 3 new rims to mount tires on so before the 5 i shall recieve with this truck im sitting at what 12 diff wheels for my ex and 3are like the two on the abck 3 are liek the ones on the front and 3 are the crappy looking spare rims lol but i can be shooting stars now with a full set!

and also judging by not seeing the shift lever for the t-case anyway im assuming its the electric push button whihc doesnt bother me i just rebuilt my shift motor

be good for parts. or a fixeruper. but it does look a bit bdup IMO.

thats all it is for is part for my 94 xlt since body wise i need fenders and doors and ths such...interior panels are all mssing on mine and i need a headlight switch and then tranny and t converter and i need brake lines for the back lol i need plenty of parts for my ex so i believe its going to be a good deal i hate the red interior imo its ugly! but thats what paint is for right?

correctomundo!. i want a black interrior. use the duplicolor it works like a dye really good. red can be nice in certian situations but not this one...

im looking for a two tone color thinking black and maybe a glossy red for the smaller pieces (nothing too big the gloss will reflect enough to blind me off the dash tho)

well the tables have turned slightly...my tow guy bailed on me last minute...so the guy is going to deliver but is asking 350 with the delivery! im still going for it =) considering its a 90 minute trip one way and he's going to have to clear the snow (which originally i agreed to do)

The only MAJOR running change in the explorer was a change from batch fire injection (91-93) to sequential fire (94). So engine computer and related parts will be different. Sure wish I could find a deal like that for mine....

Yet another with the red exterior. Fortunatly, mine dorsn't have the "****o red" interior... grey leather here!

well got the truck... the hood was bashed up a bit (other front end parts were good) its a bit obvious it's been parked a little longer than a few month due to the wasps nest and rat nests made under teh seats...but i still went for it now he claimed it was the electronic ignition control (as he called it) what is he actually referring to and what about a picture if someone has one? and can i pull the one off my 94 and use it to try adn get this fired up so im able to easier move it to where its final resting place will be (which atm is currently a 8 foot plus snow drift behind a shed lol) thanks again guys...and btw im liking your ex! maybe someday mine will be fixed up enough to look clean andmean versus like a hunk of junk work in progress as my family says lol

The ignition module in question is mounted on the rad cradle behind the battery. Remove the battery and you'll see it, it's in plain sight without the battery.
