I had a problem two years ago with the o/d light coming on....the truck started shifting quite hard and would not go past 3rd gear on the highway. I brought it to a tranny shop and had the transmission replaced on their advice. One year later, the o/d light is again on and of course, past the warranty period. What I've noticed this time is that the light always comes on when I slow down to a stop. It will go into third and fourth and all gears no problem, but when I slow down to a stop, the light comes on. When on the highway, if I am approaching a red light and don't come to a complete stop (even if I'm at 2 mph), everything is OK when I resume upshifting. If the light has come on, there is no way of getting the truck past third gear. This results in my RPM's at 4000 when I'm around 60 mph. Please help.....very confused and can't afford another tranny which is what the mechanics will suggest undoubtedly.

Welcome to this forum! When the overdrive light comes on, it is an indication of some fault causing it to go into limp (FMEM) mode. Do not drive it when this occurs, or it might cause some sort of internal damage. Shops always suggest a complete rebuild when it could be a bad sensor, improper band adjustment, or a valve body solenoid malfunction. Have the code read first to avoid any guess work. Your transmission is the 5R55E 5 speed automatic.
