Hi all, I am new the the forum and explorers in general. I have owned a couple rangers though. I picked up a 1997 mountaineer today (will post pics later).

I am planning on a few upgrades like a small lift some 31 or 32" all terrain tires, oh and the biggest will be a diesel engine swap.:p: I know alot of folks are gonna say why a diesel when you have a 5.0L in there but gassers just arent for me I love diesels. I hope to get around 28-30mpg (should be easy) and still have around 250rwhp and 400 rwtq or so.

Just in case your wondering if I'm full of it or actually know what I'm getting into here is some of my work on my old 67 F100, its a single cab short bed, 07 crown vic front suspension, 94 mark 8 IRS 3.9L isuzu twin turbos etc, etc. has managed a best of 32mpg city 34 hwy (with a single turbo) and is no slouch with the twins ( and yes I fabbed all of it includign the header, valve cover, twins, suspension installs, etc.)

Anyway I'm excited to be here and will be doing alot of searching, I have already spent a few hours reading through these how to threads you have, theyre great!

Randy

Here are a few pics to show I'm not a complete newb to fabbing at least LOL

Is your truck a WIP, or is it finished now? Pics!!!

The truck is always a work in progress. I built it to be a test bed for small diesel engines and different turbo setups. I actually have it apart right now. I removed the 6 spd T56 so I can install the 5R110 auto 5 spd, the IRS is getting removed so I can install a 4 link and solid axle and the motor is stripped of its turbo so I can install a procharger supercharger and 60mm turbo. LOL I know that seems like alot of work but it doesnt take that long really.

Welcome to the site. That's a cool truck.

Welcome To The Forum! Nice work on the truck! There's a member that had put a diesel in his explorer sport and hooked up a jeep transfer case so he could keep 4wd. If you search explorer diesel in google you should be able to find it if you're looking to get any ideas.

Thanks for the tip, I will look it up, never hurts to have different ideas on a project. I pretty much have it all figured out, my wife is really wanting to help out on this one and I want to see how fast I can do one of these swaps now (I have done a few now lol). We are gonna start on a friday evening and see if we can be done and driving it by monday evening, I think we can since we did a buddies truck (that looked like it was factory if I do say so myself) in a week and that was taking our time. It just takes alot of prep work, gathering your parts getting orgainzed having a plan then going at it. I am gathering some body lift parts right now, and will be firing up my lathe tonight to start on the engine to trans adapter so its ready, I hope to be swapping the motor within the next month.

well this is the thunder which is basically same thing and yes thats how it looks factory =o'''' check it out here http://www.ford.co.uk/Cars/NewRanger
