Hi there,
I am a wannabe Explorer’s owner. Actually I am just making my mind about my first SUV and I wanted it to be American (I live and Europe), mostly because prices of used ones are much lover than those from Korea or Japan. Except of this American SUVs look really great. I had closer look at Jeep Cherokee – nice but small, Grand Cherokee – even nicer but average consumption above 20 l/100 km is just a little bit too much (I am ok with everything up to 16/100 but >20/100 no), Blazer and Explorer. I did not test-drive these 2 yet but did some research and discovered that Ford is much more reliable that Chevrolet – is that true? I going to see a 97 Explorer, 205 HP with around 90 K km on the clock ( something like 60 k miles). Other option is 1998 Blazer 4.3 with similar mileage (only around 4000 Chf /3000 USD ) more expensive. Does anyone have Blazer/Explorer comparative experience? Will be very thankful for any tips and/or suggestions.

Adam

welcome to the forum! the explorer's are very much more reliable that the blazer's, I had to worked on at least 3 to 4 a week, most common problems are intake gaskets, 4wd computer's, ball joints, and dont get me started on the evap system. explorer's are very reliable, most people get over 300k on the same motor.
