Hi folks,

Great site here... almost too much!

Picked up a '92 4x4 the other day, with a rear spring-over-axle swap and some skyjacker parts on the front... blown motor, mismatched axle ratios, and some other fun stuff. Ranger front axle... what's up with that?

Also have a '93 4x4 stocker with 3.73 (LS rear)... great truck!
Thinking this one gets maybe 2" lift and 31x10.50's... max.

Just wrecked my '92 2wd DD. gonna miss that old rusty hag.

All this and a '95 Limited parts truck... hehe "same but different"!
(Looking like this motor's going in the '92, along with the rear disks!)

Suggestions and links appreciated!

Thanks for the GREAT site!

what city are you in? I work in Louisville and live in southern Indiana.

The Explorers and the Rangers shared the same Dana 35 TTB front axle while the Explorers rear axle was a tad wider.

Im also wondering where you are located. I have a drive in theater in tompkinsville, ky

welcome

Thanks for the info, I knew part of that, but didn't know how the widths worked out.

The Ranger front has a ratio not used in an explorer, so...... good time to move towards 4.10, or at least 3.73. with 33's I'm thinking 4.10's. If I can get it Torquey in the mid-range I'll try 3.73. maybe. heh

..

BTW, I'm North of Shelbyville in Eminence KY... if anybody needs any stuff off this '95 Limited, please let me know!

Thanks for the warm welcomes!

I personally would go with 4.10 gears if you are going to be running 33's.

You don't happen to have an extra front drive shaft for a '91-'94 Explorer do you?

Welcome to Explorer Forum! I'm looking forward to seeing more of this truck.

That's my thought. Depends on what comes to papa first, 3.73 or 4.10... hehe
I wouldn't mind 3.73 IF(!) the tourque numbers are right, for the MPG.

Dunno if a front from a '95 would work would it?

I don't think you will like the 3.73's and 33's. I ran that setup for 2 years on my old '97 Ranger 4.0 w/ a 5 speed. It was ok, but nothing impressive. I would go straight to 4.10's.

No the '95+ Explorer front drive shaft is completely different.

I'm a little biased gear-wise maybe... the ol' '78 (400, C6, 2.70gear) with a few tweaks did very very well, ~16 mpg and all the pull-away a man ever needed. More Torque, lighter petal = better mpg. IMHO.
but yes, 4.10 is the desired number.. esp. if the power aint there to pull it... Hunting seasons are soon, matched axles gets priority over numbers for now. :)

The things done to the 2wd 'ploder (before it got rear-ended severely) was a 4" cutout in the bottom of the airbox with a 4" PVC 90, that stupid screen removed from the MAS body, and the detent cable removed (it was damaged). I think the CAT was gone when i bought it. It was just a shade under 20mpg, 80 miles a day, no interstate. Removed the luggage racks too. will miss that truck.

Bro if I had a front drive shaft, i'd help ya out. Next trip over to the "other" shop i'll give a look, maybe we'll get lucky!

Sweet!

Are there enough 'tuckians to merit a meet-n-greet, anything like that?

I am not from Kentucky, but I would hit up a meet and greet (I wouldn't admit I was from Kentucky even if I did live in Kentucky ;-))!

There are a few of us around, i would like to see a KY gathering, maybe a run as well. We just have to find a good spot to wheel that would accomodate all of us. Maybe we could start a thread just for that, maybe even include the tennesee crew?

Indiana just opened up a a portion of Interlake for wheeling. That would be a cool place to have a meet. It is about 30 minutes northeast of Evansville

I jacked my own thread. :)

One's yous guys start a thread and see what round up. (The "newb" might not get much attention. heh)

Never "wheeled" (as ya'll say) with a group before, this could be interesting. Work permitting, and not to terrible far, of course.

Round here we call it "what'll we tear up today"? LOL

i will get a thread goin in the right forum for a meet ,greet and wheel in ky or somewhere close:thumbsup:
