 Just wanted to say hi, I am new to Explorers having just bought a '97 as a temporary vehicle and falling in love with it, we are destined to spend many long and happy years together!
Also found this site by accident and was wondering if anyone can help, I am about to fit a Lpg gas conversion which has a tank where the spare tyre goes, I am looking for some way of mounting the wheel on a swing-away bracket on the rear door but can't find anything in the UK (or eBay). Does anyone know of anywhere in the states I can get one of these, or even tell me if they have ever made one for this vehicle.
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

Hi and welcome.

From what I have seen all the guys on here who have done that have made there own brackets up. I don't think there is an off the shelf solution.

I have not seen any pre-made brackets. A lot of the members here who go off-road have fabricated bumpers with swing away tire mounts on them.

This thread is an example of what I mean (although he purchased it from someone else):

hi there:)
I took the lpg plunge a couple of months back, best thing i ever did,36.9p a litre and after the tune up,no loss of growl at all.I got a similar set up done by gaspower uk (lpga approved fitter) we also lost the spre wheel but solved it in quite a different way...all our tyre's were treated with a special solution used by our police forces/some military vehicles (no police vehicle carrys a spare wheel)which seal any puncture instantly, the tyres are all garunteed against any flat for the whole legal life span of the tyre which eliminates the need to carry a spare at all .might save a lil agro.
kind regards and good luck with the lpg.

btw just a lil thought..sounds like you may be fitting the rig yourself? make sure its a multi point sequential injection kit(mines by bigas of belgium) explorers have plastic manifolds,if you dont use a MPSI rig you may get a backfire which will shatter the manifold and cause lpg to invade the engine with catastrophic results(yoiks!!) also if ya dont have it fitted by an approved fitter it can seriously effect your insurance.
peace and enjoy exploring.
