Hello. I just joined the forum. I found it while searching for "front end squeaks" i just bought a 96 Explorer XLT about 3 days ago and it is very clean, seems to run great. Only two things that bother me is the squeaks and the "check engine" light is on. It has 159,000 on it but must have been well cared for. Anyway, never thought I'd have a Ford in my driveway but hey, I'm too old to be picky. No, seriously, I really like it so far but would love to get rid of those two problems. I hope I did get a good vehicle.:smoke:

If you take your vehicle to an AutoZone / Advance Auto Parts, etc- they can read your trouble codes (why your check engine light is on) for free. If you do, get the codes, and bring tham back here before you spend any money on parts at the place that reads them...

As for the squeaks, at your mileage, your suspension components are most likely needing some attention- sway bar bushings, end links, etc... One of them could be causing your squeaks.

And yes, you bought a very good vehicle! Much to the chagrin of many in politics, the Ex is an incredibly stout, long-running vehicle.
