I saw this website while trying to find a way to salvage my '06 Explorer. I just got my truck back from the mechanic today and was told that due to oil starvation my bottom end is now shot with bearings that apparently have to much roaming room and that now I need to purchase a new engine. This all came about within the last 10K miles that started with my oil turning to Jello. I took it down to a local shop and they initially told me when they went to drain my oil nothing came out and when they figured it turned solid they took a blow torch to my pan to get it out and cleanse and condition and refill my oil but 6K miles later my oil is fine but my engine knocked hard and can't hold an idle. They checked my codes and it came up P0022 which I went and replaced my VCT sensor because my timing was over compensating which brought me to todays visit and result. My problem is that it came at the worst possible time because I am currently on disability for a back injury I sustained at my job and money is pretty scarce. Not getting into too much detail I don't have a lot of money to buy a new motor so I'm wondering, I have an engine hoist but I have never removed an engine before so how hard is it to pull my motor out and pull the bottom end apart and is it even worth doing or should I find another alternative? Any help would be appreciated and hopefully I learn some new things to correct this problem, thanks.
