2007 Mercury Mountaineer
Hi, I have a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer V8 AWD Premier. I'm not a fan of it, sorry. I looks fine and is nice inside, but it drives horribly. That is why I am here. I want to like it, but driving it drives me crazy.

What sort of problems are you having with your Mounty?

Welcome!

I have a 2007 Mountaineer V8 AWD Premier w/ 28K. I think there is a gearing problem. I really have to mash the gas to get it to accelerate at a reasonable rate (like keep up with normal traffic). It will accelerate hard if I want to. I also don't get the kind of gas mileage that most of the posters on this site seem to be getting, I pretty much avg 13 mpg no matter what. Maybe on the freeway it goes up to 15 (at best). I bought it new in '09 (it had 119 miles on it from the dealership). It is a good looking SUV and I like all the features, but the gas mileage is killing me. I had a '02 5.9L Durango before this and the mpg was about the same. I am very disappointed on how this SUV drive, especially after reading all the praise it gets. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Do your RPM's increase in general proportion to your speed? I wonder if your transmission is slipping. How fast does it slow down when you take your foot off the accelerator?

Would this not be covered under warranty as you bought the car new and it's only a few years old with low miles? Maybe you have a restricted cat.

It really seems like the gearing is too tall. Nothing seems to slip. It seems like it has to rev more than it should to accelerate. I'll take it to the dealer when I get a day off to have them look at it.

It sounds like it revs ok, it just doesn't go anywhere? Is it anything that's gotten worse, or has it always been like this since new?

I'll ask about the throttle by wire system, seems like a good place to start. I like giving the shop some ideas to start with.

It has been the same since day one. I'm not sure I would have even bought it, but the wife likes it. Once it is up to speed it seems fine.

Once I take my foot off the accelerator it seems to slow down normally, it doesn't keep going and it slows like other vehicles I have owned.
