hello I am Shawn new here of course. I am not into modding explorers. We do own a 1998 xlt burgandy with tan leather. I am a moderator on www.50tech.com i am a mustang gear head. with introductions beins said I do have a question.
My 98 explorer has a vibration at Idel, in gear sitting still like at a light. I tuned it up Plugs and wires. It had 75000 miles on OEM parts. This gave it new found power and helped the Vibration a bit. Just wondered if its a common thing? I seen a guy on corral.net say same thing about his 98. thanks in advance.

BTW The vibe seems to eminate from the driversside near the drive shaft area But the shaft going to front is tight no loose joints. Guess I should tell where it came from. duhhh:D

Welcome to the boards!!!:D

We may be able to help you with your idle problem, but to start, we need to know which engine you have.

is there like a 'clanging' vibration, or is it just vibrating?

i'm not sure, at first i was thinking IAC valve, but maybe not?

Shawn, there were two 4.0 V6s available that year. One was the OHV (pushrod), identified by EFI on the engine cover. The other was the SOHC(overhead cam), identified by SOHC on the engine cover. The different engines have different "quirkes". Some members here are more experienced with the OHV, while others are more proficient with the SOHC. Identifying which you have will help in finding your problem.

IAC is a possibility I havent cleaned it or messed with it as far as I know its OEm part. We just bought this a few months ago I spoke to previous owner she didnt have alot of documentation but it has been well cared for she kept oil changed etc etc. I noticed it has had a new half shaft installed. other than that it looks pretty much stock and clean for a 1998 with 75000 miles.

ok cool, OHV-i had the same problem with mine about a year ago-clean or replace you IAC and i'm sure that will help-other than that i can't think of anything

nope-sorry my ex didn't come w/fogs......
