Does anyone know if Ford makes a high idle controller for gas engines like they do for the Power stroke diesels (https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas/non-html/apcm_manual.pdf)?

I'm going to be installing a hefty power inverter, and want to keep the idle speed up to power it (~1200 RPM), but only when the inverter is in use. I'm pretty sure there was a module like this for Crown Vic police cars (thus implying that it is possible on Ford gas engines), but I can't find any info on it. Any info on high idle controller options would be much appreciated.

OFF ROAD makes one for the GMC work truck, they should have one for Ford Gas as well as diesel, go to thier website www.offroadengineering.com

Best I can tell, they only make one for 2005 and newer E- and F- series... I'm looking for something for my Ex

From Off-Road Engineering:

Unfortunately, we don't offer a system for the Ford Explorer. The reasoning behind this is that we interface with the SEIC wiring harness which was not part of that vehicle from the factory. Though may industries use the Explorer as a command vehicle, the factory does not consider it a "work horse," and, therefore, did not provide it with the provisions to allow it to high idle.

I am not aware of anyone in the industry who does manufacture one. I wish you luck in your search.

 :banghead: I guess I'll have to do it the hard way... I may try hacking the TPS (sorta like this http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/555078-homemade-high-idle-control.html) but it'll be a while before I need it.

THAT SUCKS! I know we got one from them for a GM worktruck, and just figured if they make one for an F or E series that it should be able to work off an ex too! Maybe need to find out how it gets wired into an F series and make a wiring adapter for the Ex..
