I have a 92 explorer sport XL with 140,000 miles that has a high idle. When I start the engine it idles at 1,300 RPM and then slowly comes down to 1,000 RPM after about 5 minutes. I have a flowmaster installed and the Kurtz Kustom intake. New plug wires and Bosch 2 Platinum Plugs. I have cleaned the MAF before, didn't help. I also put a new clutch and slave cylinder in. Any suggestions on what maintenance I should do. Also the transmission shifts kinda rough. Thanks in advance.

You may want to check that the throttle linkage (and cable) is free and well lubed. Also, check for a vacuum leak. Do a search for vacuum leak, there are many different opinions on how to check for them.

Also, has the computer been reset since you did the power and ingnition mods? If not, may want to do that. Here's a good description how: Dead Link Removed

Welcome to the site and good luck!

Please do not double post, flbudman. I deleted your duplicate thread.

Don't take it personally flbudman. All newcomers make mistakes, "he without sin shall cast the first stone". Everyone here has. Keep the legit posts comin'.

sorry. I though I posted it in the wrong spot the first time.

I reset the computer and it still idles at 1000RPM. Could it be the exhaust b/c I have one pipe coming from the engine into the flowmaster and then two pipes coming from the flowmaster to the back of the explorer

Check your tps and iac you might want to check your altenator too

Sorry, but what is tps and iac?

Throttle positioning sensor, idle air control valve.Try cleaning them first. They are not that much to replace.I.A.C. is on the drivers side looks like a little cylinder bolted with two bolts to the upper intake I think 10 millimeter bolts.T.P.S. is on the front of the upper intake two screws hold that on.Hope this helps
