Basically, higher pressure injectors can get more fuel into the cylinder. Usually injectors are sized according to max lbs/hr. Stock injectors are 19#. There aren't many reasons to go with higher flow injectors on the 4.0; the 5.0 is more likely to need them.

Forced induction and nitrous are about the only reasons I can think of to go past the 19# units. Even so, I have the BBK supercharger and still have the stock injectors. I do have an upgraded fuel pump and regulator, but the stock injectors have enough flow to compensate for the extra fuel needed. If I do many more mods though, I'll upgrade to 24# injectors.

So unless you have the airflow to go with the added fuel, there isn't a reason to upgrade the fuel system.

Hey thanks for the info! I only wish I your bank account to make my truck a rice eater beater. Do you know a good place that sells engine parts like heads, cams, flat top pistons, etc for the 4.0? I want to start building another motor for mine, and I want to make it strong just short of the blower mod. Thanks for the replie.

www.vanirtech.com

Sven has a book on the cologne V-6 out that you should read if your going to work on the 4.0. Avail from him or on Amazon- "How to build and Modify Ford 60*V-6 engines" covers the 2.6, 8,9 and the 4.0. Its a little dated(pub 94) but the basic info is good and worth the $20 for anyone interested in this engine. Note that the book doesnt have anything on the FI on the 4.0. May want to get an EEC book to help you out also.

Do a search on this site for some other info and find a good machinist who will look at things other than the SBC or Ford!!

PS it will be cheaper to get the SC than to "build" the engine!!

Thanks Steve. I am just doing the research now. There aren't that many places that sell performance parts for the 4.0 motor. I will definately get the book though. If I do this, it will be over the course of a year just taking my time and doing it right. Any good places near Gaithersburg? I live down here in Va Beach?

Josh,

Well you dont want to be coming up here for the work!! 64, 295,95 is a ***** I was in Suffolk this weekend and it took me 5hrs to get down there - I dont know what was up- but normally I can do it in 3.

When I rebuilt my 4.0 it was like pulling teeth. I did most of the leg work about specific parts and had a machinist that did work for me previously on some odd ball stuff do the work. It took a while -he was busy and was a little leary of the 4.0- he had done some 2.9 work but no 4.0s. It worked out ok but I had to check and recheck everything(he had the cam bearings in wrong) and I set up the cam and did some of the head work( mild matching) he did the basic machine work, and got me the short block parts, most of the other stuff I got.

For a cam you might check www.Camcraftcams.com. I used comp cams and found them(through my machinist) afterward. KB has some pistons. Depending on what you want to do and the cam you want to run the late model heads with their smaller chambers may be a good idea if your not going with a SC- they add a point to compression.
Smith bros is the place to get push rods made. Youll need them if you change the cam. Also new lifters from one of the take out places will save you some money.
Do a search though most of this has been covered on the board at one time or another- any questions let me know I did most of the work on mine last year, and have a list of parts places around somewhere I could dig up if you have some questions.

Steve
Did you use flat top pistons in your 4.0? I was thinking about flattops but the guy at cam crafters said that it wouldn't be a good idea. What are the specs on your cam? Camcrafters is 200 and 210 duration/.485 .50 lift. How much was it? And thanks for the referal that guy can talk at camcrafters. I would like to build a motor that put out about 225 to 250 HP.

cam numbers

Josh,
Info from the CC web site. : The rocker ratio is advertised at 1.46 so gross lift would be 1.46 x .3 or .438" on the intake, and on the exhaust 1.46 x .310= .4526".

Sounds like the duration on yours would be the same with more lift- I like that -should build a bit more torque. What did he say about valve springs? I wish I would have found Cam Craft before I bought my cam. Oh well next time.

I dont remember the exact cost off the top of my head (I think it was $200+ its a roller cam) Ill go searching for the invoices tonight- I also have the pushrod ordering info Ill try and find -Check your e-mail about the pistons and misc info.

Cut and pasted from www.competitioncams.com- they have another "hotter" cam also ( i dont have the number)which if I had increased my compression and had some lower gears I would have run instead.

Man its like christmas around here! Hey since you already have the info hows about I just give you the parts and you can practice building another engine? Sounds good to me. HEHEHE. THANKS FOR THE EFFORT!

Wish I could!!

Josh wish I could -I had fun building mine , but dont have the time, too bad you arent closer I would come over to help :)
Hey you might check out the WoWMomma thread in this section. "superman" got an explorer with the CompCam 410 ,increased compression and ported heads with std bolt-ons and dynoed around 225. Thought you may be interested (ignore the BS, look at what he has).

Thanks for all the info! Maybe you would know some cool places to go wheeling? I have another explorer budy and one xterra owner who want to go but we have no place except for a few bogs.
