also, how can I reinforce the roof without a support beam?

what kind of a set up do you have? I had to put some dynamat in my roof and hatch but it still didn't help that much-everything rattles!

I have a 12" brahma from Adireaudio.com, and a nice 3 cu ft box, tuned to 35Hz, and 1600 watt Revolution amp from ampman.com, and to do mids and highs (no mid bass yet) I have the DEI 500, 75watts rms into 4ohm X4 to my infinity Kappa 5x7s in all doors (i need better SQ ... but don't wanna make stuff, any SQ 5x7s out there?)

have you had your amp tested? is it really putting out 1600 watts (not questioning you, just wondering) my fosgate came with a certificate and it's putting out 1743 watts! (max)

yea, it's been tested, did 1510 at 12.5 volts, and 1670 at 14 volts, we didn't have the ability to test 14.4

You think your annoyed, just think how annoyed those around you must be! I guess I'm old fashioned, I can't stand someone elses thump

yo

lol, i know the feeling, before i get up for school i hear others with systems (i am superior) but it annoys me...

well, i'm more considerate than them... I keep my windows closed, AND i dont listen to it loud anyhow...

but my rules are as follows: 10am-dark, or 8pm in summer

other times, windows up, or no bass.

otherwise, this loud level of sound i have, it is my SPL port, i normally drive with my SQ port tuned to 30Hz, i am a fan of Sq... but i also know these lower waves go into houses easier, lol, so like I said, I have my own guidelines for playing my own music.

I have almost an identical rattle, behind me to my left. I thought it was the window, but I have not figured it out yet.

I'm wondering if it's on the roof? the rack? i dunno, haven't been able to find it yet, and as soon as I change to sit in the rear, it's gone. GRR

Want a simple way to find and pin point the location of those pesky rattles? You will need the following:
- a cd player
- test cd with sine sweeps, preferably with corresponding track to frequency from 20 to at least 100hz ( you can actually find these at best buy in the misc. bass section )

put in the cd and let it play through the sweeps relatively loud. You should be able to pin point your rattle when the freq. that is causing it plays. Find the rattle and treat it accordingly with Dynamat , found at Circuit City etc, or any number of cheap fixes ie; I used foam mattress pading behind my quater panels to act as a barrier between the plastic and the metal... works like a champ!

That matress padding in the rear quarter panels ain't a bad idea. I had to take my roof rack off completely-it shook way too bad!!!!!

Dude, all my rattles come form the plastic around my seatbelt holder. You know the place where the seatbelt is raveled back up into? Well, anyways....Good luck!

The overhead spot for my garage door opener rattles as loud as the music... its crazy. Everything, and i mean everything rattles. I've almost given up. The back hatch is a nightmare, i've sprayed the back of the plastic panel with rubberized undercoating, the back hatch is stuffed with sound deading attic insulation (the pink fiberglass stuff). I sprayed expanding foam into the holes up top where i couldn't get the pink fluffy stuff, to fill up that space and stop rattles. I have a rubber band around my handle on the outside to keep it from rattling. It helped with maybe 2 or 3 of the rattles, but there are still at least 5 more, and thats in the rear hatch alone! The dash rattles, the kick panels, the windows, I've sprayed the backs of all my panels with rubberized undercoating, and the metal on the door with it too. Seems like it didn't help at all! My Ex is just a stupid box of rattles...

lol, well, i've gotten rid of most of my rattles from the rear hatch, but the ones now are:

unknown inside rattle behind drivers seat, drivers door handle (HAVE NO CLUE how to fix), Rear hatch handle, rear hatch glass (fix?), roof rattle (cannot stop the 1 inch movement?), then... my cell phone always jumps out of the cupholder...lol, it's hilarious to see the literally jump, it's record is 6 inches, lol

the roof is flexing...I have the same thing with my 15 ;[ im unaware of what to do about it. maybe my new box which has a different design will stop it.

the roof is flexxing due to the variance in air pressure, which is bass by simple definition.

unless your new box manages to NOt change the air pressure in the car, which would mean no bass... the roof will always move.

less subs, or lower xsus subs can decrease that pressure, but that also will yeild a decrease in sound pressure, or loudness, or dBs

your statement is almost correct. You left out one important factory on flexing which would be the resonance frequency of the object which is flexing. At certain frequencies a object will/will not flex...

So sure my roof may flex at 29hz like crazy but if i play something like 59hz it may not at all.

But im pretty sure that I would be louder at 59hz then 29hz ;]

Hey lets start posting ways we have found of getting rid of those hard to find rattles (without like 20 posts about dynomat, etc)

1.) Rubberized undercoating behind door panels
2.) Small black rubber band around back hatch handle
3.) House (pink fluff) fiberglass insulation in back hatch
4.) Expanding foam in top of back hatch

I have the same rattle near my left ear.

I dunno if anyone else has had this rattle... but if you have the auto-dimming rear view mirror, there is a wire that is right next to the glass, and comes from the roof. THIS THING RATTLES LOUDER THEN ALL OTHER RATTLES COMBINED. For the longest time I could not figure out where it was coming from. Now I have a pen wedged between the wire and the glass... no more rattle.

As for the rear hatch, the only thing I've been able to fix that caused some rattle, was the arm from the locking mechanism. However just wrapping an elastic band to put some pressure on it remove that rattle... (still tons of other rattles left).

If someone could put some pics up w/ how they fixed most of their rattling, I'll come wash you ex once a week. Wax once a month. :)
