Hi all, I'm wanting to run holley terminator for engine management and my question is, if all sensors from stock ecu are unplugged will stock ecu still run everything else it normally does. Don't need to worry about trans as I have full manualised 4l80, 1000hp turbo built 02 explorer.
Thanks

What else are you wanting it to run? If you take the engine and trans control away from the stock pcm, you might as well just remove it. You wouldn’t want PATS as that point. The stock cluster won’t work anymore, but I imagine you are using a Holley digital dash. Anything else that needs power you can just rewire the run/start relay to work. Are you still running a 2v 4.6 or is there something else swapped in?

4.6 2v and yes 7" digital dash but was hoping everything else that isn't related to engine management and transmission control will still operate, pats, aircon, abs and all other dash controls and safety features.

Are you able to run some simple inputs to the pcm at least. Can you tee into the signals for at least the crank position, CHT, and TP? I think if the pcm at least saw rpm and load and engine temp, you could retain A/C, and the pressure sensors of course. Do you EATC or manual climate control? 02 explorers use simple SCP, UBP, ISO networks, so you might be ok with the other stuff.

Also, how about some pics? I would like to see what you have. It sounds pretty nice.

Ok I thought if the pcm saw the engine running via crank sensor it would start throwing codes with every other sensors unplugged, still in the process of putting it all together still sitting on axle stands but hopefully have it up and running in the next couple months and will post pics.

It’s going to throw some codes by just unplugging things, even without the engine running. Once you power up the pcm and it doesn’t see certain sensors responding, it’s going to set multiple circuit codes. But it shouldn’t matter, since it’s not controlling the engine. You only need it for the a/c components. The abs just needs to know the pcm is there, it’s basically a stand alone system.
Btw if you need any specific wiring info or anything, I am a Ford senior master tech, I’ve been with ford for 22 years. I have also heavily modified my explorer.

Looks like I need to mod this 3rd gen
Maybe just some simple stuff

Awesome you sound like the right guy to talk too then 😊 I do have sct software as I was originally going to flash tune but decided to go holley efi, so I believe I can atleast turn off all codes and get rid of cel. So I'll just have to splice into new harness for crank sensor ect? When you have time some info on your explorer would be cool 🙂
