I live in Scottsdale, AZ. I have an 99 Explorer (Eddie Bauer) and no A/C. The gate that switches from heat to fresh air to A/C is stuck open on heat. So no matter what temp you chose it provides an inferno inside the car, especially if the temp is 105 F outside. A great car for Alaska. Does anybody know how difficult it is to get access to this gate? Does the whole dash have to be removed? I certainly would appreciate some advise. Sweating away in Arizona.

For a temporary solution, you can also switch to Max A/C as it uses different ducts. You'll have nice cold air. :)

Welcome to the forums. There is a specific climate control section. Do some searching and you will find a "5 minute fix" for the blend door.

Good luck.

blend door

Got the the actuator out and found out that the blend door is fine. Bought a new actuator at the dealer, about $ 50.00 and it still does not work. It has an ATC and obviously there is no signal going to the actuator to move the blend door. I checked all the fuses, no problem there. I did a self test on the system and it gave me the code 025. I was able to rig the blend door so it stays on cold, which is great as I am living in AZ. Does anybody having an idea where to go from here ? I appreciate all the expert advise on this site as I am mostly a car idiot and everything I do takes me forever researching things.

An EATC code of 025 is an Intermittant or Runtime fault, Blend door short or failure. I can get you the diagnostics and trouble shooting guide but I don't know the system at all.
