This past weekend I picked up a Clarion 6-Cd Changer (F87F-18c830-AB) in a yard sale(no wire harness). I own a 1997 Explorer XLT with a factory head unit that has a CD control button. When I originally purchased the vehicle, I thought the sales guy told me that the vehicle was pre-wired for the Changer. I pulled open the console (not totally) but could not find the wiring harness; I did see a plug that had a cover located accross from the aux power outlet.

I tried calling multiple dealers, Ford customer service and numerous sound installation shops - no-one was able to provide any information . . .

Does anyone know if there is a prewired connection for the Cd Changer? If so where is it located. If the existing harness does not support the addition of the Changer can I modify it somehow or is there an after market cable which I can purchase. Do I need to rerun all the connections to the speakers?

Is there any websites that can provide detailed installation information?

Thanks for your help!!

Jim

hey t1eng, when I got my 97 EB, I had teh JBL luxury system in there that I replaced with all rockford fosgate components, receiver and amp/sub units. I wanted to use my stock 6 disc changer, but I was told that most brands can not cross over. I would see what unit you have in your explorer, I would think it is a JBL system, just not the luxury one. Do you have a sub in the back compartment?

It is my understanding that this is the stock cd changer - I do not have a sub in the vehicle - four door speakers only. I'm trying to figure out if the vehicle was pre-wired for the future addition of a chager aand where is the harness located??
