How do I identify my motor? It's in a 2003 4.6 limited, awd, but it was swapped in from an unknown

I am chasing down a bunch of issues, and I want to first figure out exactly what vehicle this engine came out of. They told me it's from a mountaineer, but I think there's a chance it came out of an econoline.

Are there numbers stamped anywhere on the engine that I can then reference somehow to figure out what vehicle this came out of?

Check if the block is aluminum or iron. All 02-05 explorer and mountaineers with a 4.6l v8 have aluminum blocks. Expedition did also. Almost everything else has iron blocks. That would be a good place to start.
