How do I know what color my exterior trim pieces are?

Well, I got carried away out in the 'local pasture' (out back), and now I need to replace the valance panel (or whatever, the bottom trim on the front bumper), but I don't know what color it is. I like how there is three different names for "gray".

I have a 98 XLT 4x4 with the SOHC.

No matter what I do anymore, I mess up a post, no matter where I am posting. Nope just a regular 4x4.

arent they all like a grey charcoal color? got any pictures of your truck.... there is no way we can determine it from make and model....

If it's anything like the '97 XLT grey trim (mine), then it's Sophia Poly Grey. Its a very common color for the 2nd Generation trims.

If you want to make sure, go to a car paint shop and they have a remote handheld devise to determine the mixture of paint on your truck. A pretty cool gadget.

Well, the three choices I have are:

Med titanium
Graphite
Platinum

aka: three names for gray.

Where are you getting it repaired? All the paint codes should be listed on the door panel.

Mine wasn't listed, Stephen. You could scratch Sopia Poly Grey as one of the possibilities because mine does not even come close to that color, Snoop.

I did a search on this, sometimes the color code is listed on the door jamb sticker, sometimes not. Check these threads for more info

Isn't there a way to find the color through the VIN? I remember a post telling all about the VIN, im not sure if it tells the color of the trim parts.

I have the same problem

I want to install fog lamps and need to buy new lower valance for it. Here in Brazil they don't know the colors and I asked "Ford Parts Network" and "Kearny Mesa Ford", both told me mine is graphite by the VIN, but I want your opinion.
