how do I remove the stock head unit from my explorer?

I have a 93 xlt with the cassete player and I want to know how to take out the stereo.

You need a special tool, available at Wal-Mart, that looks like a "U" and goes into the holes on the sides of the tape deck and disengages the internal locking mechanism.

When I installed an Alpine in my 93, all I did was ask the stereo shop were I bought it if I could use the special tool just to unlock the head unit. It takes just a sec. I would bet that most shops would let you use one just as good biz. Besides once you pull your factory out you will not need these tools again.
