I know im not the only person here who's explorer rattles like a crazy hose beast. Any good advice or hints that you can give me to find where most of those damn rattles are coming from? I donno, i guess i really don't want to spend the money dynomating my whole car. I donno what do you guys think?

I found most of the rattle comes from the back hatch, i extreme dynamated mine, and i havent had a rattle since. There are cheaper alternatives to dynamat also...same stuff, different name.

check out

b-quiet sound deadening material

Best Regards

i roadkilled my whole explorer before installing the first system. no rattles until recently when the ceiling fell. the dome light pisses me off. i'm still trying to figure out what i can do with it.

Mine rattles like crap without any music on!! Arg how annoying to have the radio off with the windows up!

that b-quiet stuff looks pretty promising, looks like it is the EXACT same thing as dynamat(just without the dynamat name written all over it)

This sounds crazy.. but it works like a charm... downside is it's heavy and expensive. Fill all the interior spaces between your interior panels and sheet metal with expanding foam.. kills all rattles.. and makes the interior as quiet as a Benz.

phew, been awhile since ive been on the boards
mine rattles like crazy some times, just when i pump up the volume, my glass hatch makes all kinds of noise rubbing and shaking, not to mention the rear wiper, if i had better subs that thing would be gone. I used to have a cricket sound in the back, but it went away, that cheaper sound deadening stuff sound good. As for the expand-o foam, i heard if you spray too much it could expand too much and tear somethin up.

Before I had my system I had an occasional rattle. Now I've got rattles all over the place. They are especially noticable with the stereo off. My sub is just ripping the car apart. I've got dynomat extreme on my hatch (and it's doubled up with 2 layers) and then regualr dynomat all around the rest of the truck and I still have crazy rattles. I think it has to do with the cheap interior plastic panels that just don't seem to hold up all that well.

See my cheap and easy rattle fix in the "rear hatch rattles" post. It eliminated %99.9 of the rattle, is asthetically pleasing (can't see foam strip when gate is closed, must look closely to see it when open), and was very cheap and very easy.

mine rattles a lot... probably more than any of yours... there is a reason though... i have no frony end and thoe thread clips without bolts rattle a lot.

shoot, i just got a couple JL 12wo's, my rear hatch rattled, put duct tape all over the plastic "hooks" that hold it on. worked like a charm. still the dang dome light though! its just about rattled off!

haha mine too. But yeah mine rattles so bad when I have my music on. I think its mostly the sports that rattle because my friends 4 door doesnt rattle and his isnt dynamated. I would mess with dynomatting it but I selling the ex for a silverado pretty soon. (If I get the job I applied for)

My truck rattles pretty bad with the music off, and with the sub on I get hatch and dome light rattle, Duct tape pretty much took care of the interior rattle from the hatch. My passanger side door rattles like hell when I hit a bump(new) but I think its from the sagging hinges, just dont have the $$ to get it fixed right now, and everytime I say Im going to fix it I never can figure it out even with the sites helpful hints.

cool old thread! My new explorer rattles too (since my last post lol)

cant you also substitute dynomat or that other stuff, with roofing material? Im pretty sure ive heard this before, and its much cheaper cause your not paying for 'name brand'
