I just bought a new stereo CD head unit. I want to go ahead and install it and then in the next few weeks when I get the rest of my system I will go in and replace all the speakers and install the amps.

The question I have is, Can I install the new head unit and it still power the old speakers without the new amp being installed. The stereo I got is pushing about 80 watts. I just want to know if the new head unit will power the stock speakers. The Old unit that is in the X-plorer does not have an amp. It is the stock system that cam in the truck. It’s a cassette player. Anyway, I think someone will know what I’m talking about. Thanks in advance.

You should be fine driving the stock speakers with an aftermarket head unit (the only way it will ever put out 80 watts is if it gets struck by lightning), I've done it many times w/o trouble, just make sure the speakers impedence range is in the handling range of the deck.
