Just playing around with the idea, but I was wondering how much space is actually behind the plasic side paneling, primarily where our feet are in the back. I have a 2 door, but have never ventured to open it up myself.

In the two door explorer, there's that area right underneath the 5x7 speaker locations in the back seats. I was wondering if I could put an 8" sub below them. However, I would try to make some tiny box behind it to have a sealed enclosure, plus the fact that the plastic paneling would be too weak to hole an 8" up itself. Do you think it's possible if I used a really shallow driver like the CV stealths or Infinitys?

Thanks for any input!

I put a JBL 10" sub in a custom sealed MDF box (that I made) in the old cargo space on the very rear passenger side (4dr '92). I had to cut a bit of plastic and the box sticks out as far as the fenderwell and is carpeted in color matched. I put the 250W amp directly in front of the box, behind the plastic panel and out of reach of crooks. It has all worked out very well. The sound is good.

Cheers

Thanks for the tip, Tiessen!

Thanks too, I've been to that page before, and I tried to get a hold of them through e-mail about the door pods, but they didn't respond, and right now, I'm not motivated enough to call them about it. I tried looking at Audioforms's webpage, but it's a joke, and I tried calling their customer service about it, and that was even worse. I asked for a catalog, and they said to go to a shop, but most shops don't really carry their stuff. As for the different kinds, the only ones I believe they made for Ford were for the Mustang, so I'm wondering if they were Mustang Pods modified for the Explorer. I've never been in a newer Mustang, so I'm totally in the dark about this.
