'93 limited
Hi all,
I have a '93 explorer limited with 156,000 miles on it. Last week it appears I started to have the stuck governor issue. After starting the car and hitting the accelerator - it doesnt shift out of first gear. I have to rev the rpm's pretty high - then lay off the gas a bit for it to shift. (Glad I checked this site and found that this seems to be a very common problem)

I see posts on how to fix it - however, I am not really too hands-on when it comes to cars.

I was just curious about how much this would cost to get fixed at a mechanic???

And is it possible to drive around with it like this for a while??? or will this lead to bigger problems?

Thanks!
Bernie

Look at the a4ld rebuild diary threads... I think its actually part 2 that talks about the governer (with pictures)...

I replaced it on my 4x4 a4ld. I basically pullted the drive shafts from the xfer case, pulled the xfer case off the tranny (I used a tranny jack and just pulled it back about 2 ft)... Then there were 2 screws holding in the govorner. Once out I cleanup it up, put it back, and all was fine...
