how often charge A/C?

my 98 sport has ~25,000 miles on it. is there any specific interval (like years or mileage or something) in which to charge the A/C, or should i just wait till the A/C blows warm air to charge it?

Have it checked yearly..Manufacturer specs differ..Some allow for as much as a 1 lb drop a year..
