Hey,
I have two 12" Kicker CompVR's that I have taken out of my car. I have had them for sale but, not to many people are interested and I prob. can't get a good enough amount of money to justify selling them.
SO, I want to hook them up to my home stereo.
I want to build a ported box and put the subs under my bed. The subs are 4ohms-DVC-400WRMS...each.

What kind of amp do I need to make these Pound?? I have not ever messed with home audio Amps and don't know alot about them.
I still have my Kicker KX400.2 amp and, I have heard about being able to hook car amps up but, what is the best way to go about that?
I would prefer to buy the proper equipment and do this right but, if I can use my Kicker amp then I will go ahead and do that, for now. (I am on a budget)

THanks alot,
Kendal

Have you thought about using a bandpass box in your house cause that's what i had when i wasn't using my 2 phoenix gold 10's and it sounded awesome in my room.

...

Hey man,
I havne't done to much research about what type of box would sound the best but, I will consider a bandpass box. A ported would be easier to build though.

How did you have them hooked up? what kind of amp and all?
THanks,
kendal

I would not use a car amp. Just go find a used home stereo receiver and plug each speaker into the left and right sides and crank it!

Your existing receiver needs to have an amp pre-out though. If it's mono, you just need to split it in two and plug into the back of the receiver that's powering the subs.

yeh, definitley don't go with a car amp in the house;) car amps and house voltage = a big :nono: :nono:

just build a box, and either buy a used receiver or go to like Best Buy and get a nice cheap, powerful reciever from like Pioneer. I have 2ch Pioneer receiver in my room powering two Cerwin Vega tower speakers with 12" woofers. Each one gets about 200 watts and it is loud as ****, you can hear it clear across the Intracoastal.

I got the Pioneer receiver and 25 disc cd changer, and the two Cerwin Vega speakers in 9th grade as a B-Day present. That was like 6 years ago, and it's still set up in my room, and runs perfect still. It's hooked up to my TV and playing playstation 2 is crazy on it, Gran Turismo is nutz with the volume cranked up.

Alrite... No car amp then... (Anyone want to buy my Kicker KX400.2???)

Mabye its time for me to start investing in some better home audio equipment. All that I have now is a 3-4yr. old Pioneer that has the 2 speakers that attach/disconnect from the sides and, two rear speakers.
I have also researched Vaugly (??) about hooking up a computer to your home audio stuff? Anyone know much about this? I think this might be the best way for me to go. I don't really buy CD's toooo often becuase i have 1,00000000000000000000's of songs on my computer. I also have my computer hooked up to the TV and I watch DVD's that away. Doing it like that though, I can only use the computer speakers to watch movies or such. So, does anyone know a way to incorporate a home stereo to a computer? So that, the computer would also use the speakers?
I'm going to assume that I'll need a fancy Sound Card that has a certain output on it? Anyone know of a Sound card that will work for me?
Also, Does anyone have some recomendations on Nice Quality Stereo Recievers?

Thanks,
kendal

I can help :)

The first thing you should buy is a mid-high end receiver. You can find a decent sony one for around $250, and you can get other brands even cheaper. Then get a sound blaster live platinum 5.1 (or better) and run a fiber optic cable to the receiver from the PC. Beleive me, it sounds AWESOME!

ok ok so you don't want to spend all that money. The easiest way to do it then is to buy a headphone jack to rca converter at radio shack and plug that into the line out on your existing sound card. Then run that to the "AUX" port on your current stereo.

What ohm are the speakers? Most home stereo system are designed for 8 ohm while most car audio speakers are lower.
