We have owned our Explorer since new and have performed religous maintence and it has given us no problems at all. There are 111k on it right now, how strong is the motor , trans, and rear end in my 96 XLT with the 5.0 V8 and an auto trans? How many miles will it last, I never abuse it and it gets a lot of highway miles

i have a 97 5.0 awd and have rebuilt the tranny myself at 120k.... most of them last longer than that i hear..... as far as the motor goes if you have taken care of it and given it a tune up from time to time ive seen them last well well over 200k.... the rear end i know less about and i have replaced a seal in mine and replaced the fluid and everything looked brand new so i would say you would need to worry about the motor and trans wearing out before that.....you will start to wear out suspension parts if you havnt already though.... so if your a do it yourselfer it wont be more than a couple hundred .... if you have to take it in id say more like 800.... keep an eye on ball joints, cv joints, plugs wires, and shocks.... 96-98 v'8s were some of the best years...
