how to... avatar?

hey y'all just a quick dumb question... I seen all o'ya got nice, pretty and clean avatars... yet I havent been able to figure out how to make mine nice and clean... can anyone advise me how to create my avatars please? what program to use and all that nice stuff please? I appreciate your help thanks again!

i just bough a laptop that came with microsoft office 2005 with some picture editor program and used that. I only have it temporary though unless i decided to buy it when the trails up

if you want, email me your picture that you want to use, ill shrink it and email it back to you.

I wont be able to do it till late tonight though cause im at school right now.
