Well we had this spring to fit for Toms ignition switch fix.

and it was very tight. So I came up with the idea of using cable ties to act as a spring compressor.

worked a treat.

yep - did that for my brake springs for the rear drums when i did my brakes last month. worked great. put the ties on, then compress the spring with a pliers or c-clamp and the tighten BOTH ties - once they are tight, u can remove the ties and viola! it stays tensioned. install and cut the ties to release the tension.

That is a very cool idea. I will have to remember that when I have to compress a spring sometime. :)

Hey I tried that with my coils up front.Ended up with 16 stitches. ;)

yeah i don't think i'd use zip ties on a suspension coil either.... ;)

btw howard.. dude how the heck do you not break those things!?? :p

LOL I knew that was coming.

I have used cable ties in a similar way when fitting gas shocks. Never thought about using them on brake shoe springs though - I'll remember that one for the future, I did the parking (emergency?) brake shoes on my Ex last month.
As it happens I also use yellow Royal Mail issue ties...
