i want to put a good 3 or 4 inch lift on my 92 explorer. this is a newbie question, but what else do i need to buy in order for it to be put on. i can probally find a lift kit for around a hundred, and some buddies of mine are going to put it on, but is there any other parts i need to buy to make it complete?

Are you talking about a suspension or body lift? There are many lifts available and you can't just go mixing and matching parts. I'm afraid without specific info on what lift you're talking about I can't really help you out.

srry not 2 b specific, im jus gettin a simple body lift, i dont have enough money for a suspension

Body lifts can easily be done with some friends and the right tools. I don't know what you'll need though besides the normal stuff such as wrenches, ratchets, jacks, etc.

Good question.

Is it posible to put leaf springs up front to make a lift less expensive? on a '93 4door explorer?

If you want to do a solid axle swap and fab up a whole new suspension system, then yes

would you say it's cheaper to just buy the lift kit? 3" SL system?

Whats the differance between a suspention lift system, or lift kit anyway?

Get a body lift, throw on 31 a/ts and call it good enough. Research man research!

instead of not telling me the answer, and telling me other crap why don't you just say what I wanna know or tell me you don't know.

Because if your worried about me posting so much then just answer the questions and keep it short sweet and to the point....

Some of you people complain more than you help.... No BS.

DivineSoul,

You've been here for about 3 months now. You started one thread that now has about 3-4 pages of replies outlining many different lifts and what tires you can fit, etc. Some of it was explicitly spelled out for you. There are threads all the time on lifts and such. There are tips pages with lift installs, lift install threads, manufacturers websites, and much more. And it is a rule of this site to try and research on your own before starting a thread and/or asking questions.

I'm not trying to be rude or start something, I'm just stating facts.

For your benefit, I'll explain some stuff for you:

A suspension lift modifies the suspension in such a way as to lift the entire frame, body, and most of the drivetrain up off the axles. These lifts in a nutshell use new springs, spring modifications, or drop brackes for lift. Normally they result in better on and offroad performance and room for tires.

A body lift involves lifting the body off the frame. This is done with spacers that literally space the body mounts further from the frame for lift. The drivetrain stays at the same height. Things like bumpers and trim need to be moved up also to match. Also any component that interfaces with both the body and drivetrain needs to be considered: fan shroud, radiator, wiring, steering linkage, brake lines, and airbox to name a few considerations.

In general suspension lifts are preferred to body lifts.

Please take this info and build on it by reading threads in this forum, the projects forum, the SAS forum, and other places.

Good luck!

Cause we've done the research already and see stuff like this often... I keep tellin ya, cause of some of the posts of yours that I've seen.

Kits- Usually end up using the stock radius arms

systems- use new radius arms, mounts and are usually longer, claiming more articulation.

Body lifts are cheap and good for people on a budget

Also check out Dead Link Removed. Alec and the crew were VERY helpful in helping me decide. I now have a semi-frim plan on what I am going to do.

EDIT: 100 posts! :D Can I get an Amen!?

can anyone tell me what is the part number for 2" BL for 99 4 door, ppppllllleeeeaaaasssseeeeeeeeee? i looked and looked and cant find it. dont want a 3". just 2" for 31 or 32 tires

I don't know much specifically about the kit you'll need; but I think it's a Ranger kit and you'll need to mix and match parts.

which ranger kit do i need to order? dont we just use the blocks and bolts? remove old blocks, install new blocks...right?
