New to the forums.
I must say, I did not know the explorer had such a huge following.

I just bought an 02 explorer Eddie edition. Came with a 4.0, and auto trans.
The trans seems to slip going into each and every gear. Not a huge slip, just a small but noticable one to me. I was reading that these are sealed units, anyone have any suggestions on how to get this thing to stop slipping? I have been thinking of getting the fluid changed as I am sure it has never been done, but don't think this will help with the slippage anyway.
Not really interested in having the trans rebuilt, so if I can't stop it I'll just sell it, although I really do like it, the engine runs perfect and I just changed the plugs and wires today.

I would get the codes read to see if it is giving any error messages. Transmissions are weak on these....

Thanks for the input. I was wondering why it would slip into each and every single gear without fail.

Quick replies around here.

Like I said, it is an 02, exterior looks good, interior looks good, 103k miles, got it off of a coworker for 4k, she didn't want it anymore since the a/c doesnt work. The wheels were tarnished, but colonel brassy made them look like new.

The clutch wont engage, and yeah, I checked fuse #10 already, it's intact. :(
I guess the compressor is just bad.

It could be low on freon. There is a safety switch that prevents the clutch from engaging when it's low on freon. As for the solenoid block, they tend to act up around 60K milkes, so it makes sense that you have problems since you have over 100K miles. There is another common problem with these transmissions. The servo bores wear out, and could make the transmission feel like it's slipping whenever the bands engage or disengage. Sometimes a band adjustment might help. There is a repair kit from WWW.ServoBore.Com that's availabe to repair the case, but you have to remove the transmission to repair it.

I do have an old a/c gauge from a charging kit, 10 psi on the low pressure side. Maybe it does just need a recharge. I will check the relay now and let you know.
