Could this be the wear sensor for the front brakes? Mostly just hear it a slow speeds not so much at hi-way speed. Just started during this cold snap we had here. I was thinking a chunk of ice or dirt got in there some where.

Is the sensor on the front drivers side or on all wheels?
Thanks for any help.

Wear sensor is on all disc brake pads. It could be a rock or foreign debris between the splash shield and rotor. I had this happen on my old 86 F-150 a number of times. Only real good way to determine the real cause is to remove the wheel and look.

Thanks, some day when it warms up out here I will pul the wheel. I don't drive the Explorer very often now.

temperature drop, 5psi loss in tire lowering the pressure enough to hear a noise?

With these cold temps that might be it. We hit -4 - -9 for over a week.
I will check that out. Thanks.

Finally got out there and looked over the wheel. Turns out the Flap that covers the inside of the wheel well was hanging loose and rubbing on the tire. Relieved over that one.
Thanks for the help.
