What’s up guys?
My name is Jon and I’m from Utica, Michigan.
I have been browsing this forum for some time now, but I feel it is time to become an active poster.
For starters, my first vehicle was a hand-me-down 91' Ford Ranger XLT. My grandfather bought it brand new 17 years ago as a small work truck. He later retired and gave the truck to my uncle for an extra vehicle, who owned the truck from 97-02. My uncle got married and had kids, so he had no need for the truck, and gave it to my father. At the time, I was too young to drive, but when the time came, the truck was mine for my 16th birthday. I owned the truck for about 2 years until recently this winter. I was unprepared, and having a small and more importantly light truck, the rear-end broke loose going down a residential street. I let off the accelerator, but it was too late, I clipped a tree about a foot into the flatbed. The truck spun around 180*, just feet away from houses until another tree stopped me in my tracks (I was not injured, just a little shaken up).
At first, I didn’t think my truck was hurt too badly with the exception of the bed:
I got out of the truck to inspect the damage, and call my mother (who was not too happy) when I noticed my fender was imbedded into the tree. After I got off the phone with my mom, I called my dad to see what he would say. He told me to try and start the car, and see if I can just back it out and drive it down the street a couple of blocks to my house. I got in the car, turned the key, and it started... for about 30 seconds till it bogged down and died. Got my tow straps and towed it home with my mom’s Explorer. Later that night, I inspected it again to see the total damage, and I found out I ended up moving the entire engine about 3 inches towards the driver side.
Trashed the truck after 3 generations of use, and thought it was time for something new. Considering 90% of my family works, or has worked for general motors (including my father who works at ford) I decided to look into a new truck, preferably an SUV. My mom has leased explorers ever since they were released, so I thought it would be a good idea to find one for myself. Sooner or later, after about a month of looking, I found one roadside for 2500$ 1996 white 4WD 4.0 V6. Called the guy up, and took it for a test drive. It needed new breaks terribly, and the passenger side panel was rusting away. I offered him 2K$ and he accepted. Got it home, bought new breaks the next day and installed them. The engine is strong, with about 119,000 miles, but my check engine light is on. Bought a cheap OBDII code reader, and found out that it’s my H-02 censor.
Now That you know my life story, I plan on asking some tech questions in the appropriate section. Thanks for reading, I hope to talk to some of you soon!
