'95 Eddie Bauer Explorer
Two questions for this group. This week, I bought a '95 Eddie Bauer Explorer with a zillion miles and great potential. The sound system seems to be the premium unit with cassette in the dash, a 6 CD changer in the console, and a subwoofer in the back. It all appears to be factory.

There are numerous little things I need to fix, including a new power antenna mast replacement (ebay, it's on the way)

My biggest audio issue, however, is the fact that the premium head unit won't power off. I searched through the posts in this forum, but couldn't find this problem addressed. So, I don't know if this is a commom problem or not.

The main power button looks like it has an internal detent that is supposed to 'catch' in the off position when pushed. My button tries to stop there, but just won't grab. It just pops out to the 'on' position. Is this a common problem? If so, is there a fix for this short of replacing the unit?

Second problem is with the factory CD changer. I only have two days of experience with it, but it seems to skip and/or hang up quite a bit. Is this a common ailment or something that I should look into with an audio shop?

Thanks in advance.

Had the same problem with the power button on my recently purchased 96. The previous owner said the button had broken once before and been repaired and broke again.

If you have some skills at electronics, you might be able to replace the switch. It would probably be easier to get a replacement head unit off eBay and replace the whole thing (just make sure that the unit you're getting is the correct one that works with the CD changer). Around $50 seems to be the going rate.

Thanks, David. I was afraid that this wasn't a quick fix.
