On a 94 x witch is the best to change the bearing or just replace the hub on the front. I've done the on blazer and it was just to change the hub out on them so i wanted to check before i start in on this.

The hub on the Explorer just hangs off the end of the spindle. If you want to change the bearings, you pull the hub off, pull off the bearing nut(s), take off the rotor (I'm assuming you already took off the caliper) and viola.

The outer bearing came off before the rotor. The inner bearing is held into the rotor by the wheel bearing seal.

There are a few threads on here about doing the brakes which is basically what you do when your changing the bearings.

I haven't pulled anything off it yet, I did change the brake pads on it last year for the old owner. I can tell the bearing is bad by the noise it making on the road and the wheel is leaning on it bad and there play in it. So am going to take it that changing this is not the same as on 2nd gen x or 2000 blazer. I will look and see what else i can find on the forums i have found a few things.

so i take it that there two bearing in it and once you pull the rotor off you half to knock the old ones out. and if you don't have a press you use the old bearing to push the new once in place.

The only things that should need pressing in and out are the bearing races and the bearing seal on the back side of the rotor.

In the General Explorations forum is the 1st gen brake job diary thread that will walk through the process of getting the rotor off. From there, it should be pretty obvious how to get the back seal/bearing off.
