Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a 2020 Ford Police Interceptor Hybrid, and I'm hoping someone here might have some insight into an issue I'm experiencing.
When I'm driving and start to slow down, I hear a humming sound coming from the front of the vehicle. What's strange is that this sound only occurs when the engine is on and I'm decelerating from about 40 or 50Mph downwards. If I turn the engine off when slowing down, the sound goes away completely or I can say I don't hear the sound as compared to when the engine is on.
Since I just got this vehicle, I don’t have the service history and I'm unsure when it was last serviced or what maintenance has been done. Has anyone else experienced this issue or have any ideas on what might be causing it? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance for your help!

I have this same issue. Have you figured out a solution? I was told that there was a section of the exhaust near the front that might be causing this sound.

Thank you.

A little late, but Welcome to the Forum.
I wonder if it is part of the energy recovery system.

It's likely the way our up-rated 10speed transmissions are made.
There is a similar issue with my PIU when decelerating around 30MPH.
My former 2020 Expedition with the 10R80 had the same noise when driving level ground at 34MPH.
I think a louder exhaust will fix the issue ;)

I took it to the dealership and this was their exact comment: CONFIRMED CUSTOMERS CONCERN. TEST DROVE VEHICLE AND NOISE IS COMING FROM THE PASSENGER FRONT AREA. RAISED VEHICLE ON THE RACK AND HAD ANOTHER TECH TO DRIVE VEHICLE IN THE AIR AND FOUND THE NOISE COMING FROM THE DIFFERENTIAL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. PULLED THE DRAIN PLUG AND GOT A FLUID SAMPLE AND FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN THE FLUID. THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. RECOMMENDING TO REPLACE THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL AND RETEST.

If it was not a Hybrid, a loud exhaust would’ve sufficed 😂; the dealership said the noise is coming from the front diff; I’m gonna change that and see if the noise goes away.

There is always those fake engine noises you could install ;)

Got mine at the dealership. Someone really messed up the last transmission work. There are issues all over the front so they can't even tell what was wrong to start with. Unfortunately, Ford is voiding the transmission warranty 😔
And naturally, dealership cannot replicate the growling noise.
I'll update again when I get back some time next month.

Did anyone other than Ford techs work on the transmission? If so, they have the right to void whatever warranty is on it.

I'm certain the previous police department repair depot did stuff to it. Should see the inside 😁
Not sure why the skid plate was remove and then put back on wrong. The work was sloppy.
The PIU key fobs I provided are incompatible. They sold and programmed an Explorer XLT keyfob instead.

Hi, 35 kmile 2021 PIU here, just had the same noise in the right front but at 45-50-60 mph and play in the case when the right shaft is moved left-right.
The oil in the diff was full of shavings. I found only 0,2 qt oil vs 0,6 that supposed to be in the diff.
Is it common for these cars to have leaks at such mileage?
