1998 Saleen XP6
Hello,

I previously owned a red 97 Explorer Sport 4 wheel drive, 4.0 SOHC and Automatic Transmission. I actually purchased this vehicle new in 1998 for $23,000 (if memory serves me correctly). I sold this truck to my sister in 2001 for what I owed on it plus a washer and dryer. She is still driving this Explorer. The engine is still running great (over 100,000 miles). The transmission did go out last year and her boy friend installed a used transmission. She also had to get some front end work done although I can’t remember what was done.

I recently purchased a blue 1998 Saleen Explorer XP6 which is also equipped with 4 wheel drive, 4.0 SOHC and Automatic Transmission. I paid $6,000 for this vehicle and it is in excellent condition with less than 76000 miles. The only mechanical problem this truck is experiencing as follows; the tachometer is sticking, this particular model was equipped with carbon fiber mirrors and needs both the drivers side (sun damage) and the passenger side (was replaced with a stock mirror), and there is a vibration while driving at speeds over 65 mph.

Type to you soon,

Paul

Possible tires are out of round

I was looking through the paperwork for the XP and the previous owner who purchased the 255/55/18 Goodyear Eagle LS-2 tires (a little over a year old), had the tires balanced on two separate occasions because of this vibration issue.

I read some reviews for this tire on Tirerack and there is some instances where this tire may be so out of round it can't be balanced.

Paul
