Greetings:

I have small to moderate exhaust leak that is coming from my passenger's side exhaust manifold on my 1997 explorer XLT 5.0 AWD. The leak is more pronounced when I rev the motor and or drive off (SOME EXHAUST CHATTER). It sort of sounds like a hole in a muffler, not too loud, but noticeable. I found it to be a very small area that is just between the manifold itself, and the header connections, again on the passenger's side. The pipes themselves are ok. I noticed a small gap in this very same area, whereas the exhaust gases appear to be escaping from this small () type of gap. I was wondering if I could just plug up this small area with some Thermosteel 18003 from Auto Zone and or some Versachem joint and crack sealer 160. Thermosteel is rated up to 2400 degrees F. And the latter is up to 1000 degrees F. The use of any small screen and or exhaust tape is not really necessary. Upon it curing, I would incorporate some high temp exhaust paint 2000 degrees F. Again, I seek the most feasible approach at the moment. I eventually plan to repair and replace the gasket flange, because that is what it appears to be. The entire exhaust system itself, is in excellent condition. At idle, the system has the engine running smooth and quiet, with just a slight hum, upon a gas application, that is again, when it becomes more pronouced, please all may chime in and give your experiences and or suggestions!! Thanks in advance:)! My apologizes for such a long thesis:D The last owner even recently installed new oxygen sensors. I have no codes via CEL (Original mileage is 123,000).

There is a neat product called the Hush studfix that was designed to fix this very problem. You can see it at studfix.com
