i installed new k&m air filter kit with out breather box and i hear pinging.

I installed a new K&M air kit like the one advertised here without the breather box. sounds great and I think it has better pickup but i dont know. the question is i hear pinging at high rpms around 4500 . im wondering if it was allways there or is it new now that i can haer it . its not loud but its there. i have a 96 awd 5.0 v8 auto.and i use 87 octane gas. could it be gas? everything is new on it . ie plugs wires... any guess?? runs great but that ping bothers me could it be the new kit? thanx mike

1.Did you reset the EEC after installing the K & N? (Disconnect the battery + cable for a few minutes, and when you start up, it will re-learn the engine's operating parameters.)

2. If the above doesn't work, you may need to clean the MAF sensor. Go to the following web site for instructions:
