78 & newer !

Studdedx,
Bad news here, No luck on the 71 being a factory hp rev. cut set up. Here is how you can tell in case someone has SWAPPED one in. The Pinion stem enters the case ABOVE the centerline of the axle. 78-96 Ford 1/2 T Dana 44's have this feature however, the 80-96's were of the TTB set up and not of the straight axle design. So the 78-79 set up is the best Ford set up for the $ IMHO. If you can't find one i could locate one for you here but you may not like the drive or the freight charges. I hope this helps.

Steve A,
If you can find me a axle I would go there and buy it. I'm having a hell of a time here. If any of you can find a 78-79 full size dana 44 let me know I'll pay top dollar. My e-mail is derricks4x4@hotmail.com or you can call (208)423-4819 and ask for derrick or studdedx.

I know of one in a junk yard here.. BUT, it's missing one outside section.. so that wouldn't make it cheap.. plus, shipping from sf bay area could kill ya..

I've located a 1979 F-150 D44 with disks. Is this an ideal donor?

Also, can someone please explain "flat top knuckles"?

Yes. the only problem with it is you have to cut down the long side.

Also, make sure to get the radius arms, and all brackets (both radius arms, and the trackbar mount).

flat top knuckles mean exactly that - they are flat on the top. Which means you can mount the tierods on top of the knuckles, instead of below. More clearance, less chance of damage.

Dead Link Removed

This is the HP 44 that you are looking for...minus the knuckles and everything outside. Idaho isn't too far from Vancouver, BC. I'm sure Jason would sell cheap.

Cheers
Dale

i know the price is high but hey Dead Link Removed

Looks like I need to jump on this axle. It's complete except for the track bar for $400. Will this be hard to have fabbed up?

Also, I assume you ditch the ABS?

Anyone? Bueller, bueller?

studdedx......just sent you an email. Forget just the axle....how about the entire bronco?? :)

Thanks everyone for aswering my questions. I'm trying to prevent dumping a load of $$$ without knowing what I'm getting into.

So, does anyone know if state inspection (TX) will be an issue when I rip out the ABS?

I'll answer this in a different manner..

For ABS to work, you need sensors, and something to trigger the sensors.

Considering ABS is a 90's thing for ford trucks, and your going to be using a 70's axle..

You've got no choice, but to disable ABS on the front. You might be able to retrofit the rear ABS, but still..

Leebo, I answered your e-mail!!!!!:smoke: :smoke:

WWWOOOOOHHHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone can call off the search party!!!!!

I bought me a 79 Bronco today. Perfect condition and a re-built 400 motor. Does any one know what the rear end is on this thing? I'm just curious.

Well let the conversion begin!!!!!!!!!Can you hear it? Can ya? Its the sound of air tools in the middle of the night.
