I cracked my diff open because I never had any bump stops when I pieced together my lift, so I have 4" brackets with 4" springs and F150 spacers, do I go 4" or 5.5" on bumps and where. I want the smallest necessary so I dont limit travel, but I also dont want to ruin another diff because it sucks. Also Limiting straps????? anybody actually use these things? I do still run my sway bar.

dan, Ask Matt Riddle I know that he was running the duff 2.5 with limiting straps. he eventually threw on a 5.5 inch.

hows it going danny,
if you must use bumpstops , just try to get your rig flexed out somehow so you can look underneath and see the possible hazards.
then once you have figured out how high you want youre axle to move, measure from the bottom of youre frame to the point of youre axle where the stock bump stock hit. then subtract the thickness of youre bump stop. this number would be how thick you want youre brackets.
All they give you is a piece of square tubing with some holes in it, at a high price.
W/o running bump stops you can squash your springs a little, but thats what spacers are for. lol

about limiting straps, I wouldnt use them unless youre doing some jumping and abusive stuff.
otherwise youre shocks will hold the susp. up
just make sure that you have good spring retainers up top and there shouldnt be enough spring tension at full droop to worry, if there is alot of spring tension at the bottom then its time to step up to some longer shocks and you will get some more drop.

How we doin Brent, It's been a while. Well I plan on taking the truck into a well known ditch by my buddies house that puts a ton of weight on the front end and also stuffs the front tire, we should be able to determine how big of a bump stop I need. Unfortunately bump stops limit up travel, but If I can make them as small as possible, then I can have the bump stop step in where the TTB took the blow the last time.

Here is a thought, DO I ONLY NEED ONE ON THE DRIVER SIDE?
OH yeah Brent, about that bug, did you see I am putting in 4.56's and a front locker now to run 35's

456!!! excellent
35s awesome
when were you planning on doing it?
cause thats exactly what i have planned for leggos ride.
but that wont come till after my 6" lift skyjacker rockready xj coils and a soa.
may the best(or the most motivated) man win. lol
Im looking at spring 2002 before another big explorer get together out illinois way.

ps-if all you are worried about is your front pumpkin, go ahead and just put a bumpstop at close to dead bottom.
just remember to give yourself a little extra, cause as hard as those bump stops feel they can still squash all the way to the bottom.

cant wait to wheel w/ you again this spring.
hopefully we will both be on 35s creepin.

Yah dude, I also gained a ton of knowledge. Gonna get 35" Goodyear MTR's tomorrow, the 56's will go in soon my buddy set up the gears in the axle on Saturday. We also measured it up and I planted that bracket back into the hole on that diff and we see a need for 5 inches on the bump stop, do you think a 5.5" bump will suffice or do I need a 6" I really dont care to punch a hole once I get the locker and 4.56's in there.
Attica part 2 Oh I hope so, how far of a drive was that for you?

Heh... maybe if Leggo makes it out there, I'll finally get him his damn 5 bucks!
Pete

Hehe, I WILL get you that money!

Danny finally going with 35 huh! SWEET..

How far are you from Shaboygin ( sp?) I am heading up there this weekend to look at/buy a Bronco 2.

danny-if the bracket from 5.5 will work , use it.
otherwise I would order up a universal bump stop from energy susp. and get a small piece of square tubing(size depending on the bump stop thickness) drill a hole through it and youre good to go.

rfr-whats up man! I will take your word for it. just like buy me a six pack so I have something to drink while we watch our stupid ass videos all night.
