Hey guys, i just parked my explorer (1997) and noticed it was smoking. I lifted the hood and this part was leaking, can anyone identify it?

That is the heater control valve, all your heater hoses run to and through that part, and its very common for it to leak, i have replaced mine twice

Yep, I've only replaced it one time.

My SUV is leaking from the same place. Round about how much is this part and is it a dealer only part?

IIRC, it was less than $25 from the dealer, but that was several years ago. There are probably aftermarket versions available, it is a common part to fail on Gen2 Explorers.

The heater control valve is a somewhat cheap part that you can get from Autozone, Checker/Kragen/Orielies etc..

Our 1st gen explorer has one now.. It really helps the a/c.. I just tell the parts guy I need one from a 98 explorer..

It should be about $18 at autozone.
